Jillian Palone - Resin & Metal Artist

As the creator of objects intended for the body, I involve the viewer with a more intimate perspective of my artwork. The viewer becomes a wearer and therefore gets to touch and feel what I do as the creator.

I offer objects of intimacy to my audience, with delicate size, obscure form, and varying textures. My intentions for these small sculptures are not only to be viewed, but also touched, wrapped between the fingers, or gently embraced. I intend to raise the wearer’s awareness with the objects and challenge the notion of wear-ability. Because of the obscurity of form and their delicate nature, each piece cannot be forgotten while being worn.

I draw inspiration from multi-celled organisms and marine inhabitants and their physical structure and color. I combine an array of materials such as resin, metal, paper clay, rubber, and wood. By manipulating their surfaces with pencils, paint, and carving tools, each form becomes individualized and develops personalized characteristics.

While each object strives for its own independence, it becomes apparent that the artwork communicates a more powerful presence as a group. The pieces develop personalities with their physical characteristics and begin to communicate with one another. They dance in their saturated color, eccentric patterning, and varying textures and begin to come to life in a playful way.
